The census published at the end of 2017 reveals that Toulouse’s population experienced a growth of 18,800 residents over the five years between 2009 and 2014. Between just 2013 and 2014 the city centre drew in 7,999 new inhabitants.

The official population is now set at 466,297, making Toulouse the fourth most-heavily populated city in France; just after Paris, Marseille and Lyon.

Although the census did not discuss the reasons for this growth, a combination of economic growth and a dynamic student environment could be behind the attractiveness of Toulouse.
