“Don’t push yourself down, just push the boundaries”. Here is Prof. Soumyadeb Chowdhury’s (Prof. Soum, to his students) piece of advice to prospective students. Head of the TBS Education Center of Excellence on Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility, he is a multiple-time and student-favourite lecturer of TBS Education Summer School.
A former international student and expat himself – having studied in India, England, Scotland and, now working in France – Prof. Chowdhury believes “students should open themselves to the world of possibilities and opportunities beyond their comfort zone […] The TBS Education Summer School provides students with all these opportunities to go beyond traditional classroom experiences and explore the world of possibilities.” The balance between academics, corporate experience as well as social and cultural visits is a key element in the program that allow students to upskill themselves on a personal and professional front.
Prof. Soum’s class, AI driven Sustainable Business Operation, covered how the interplay between AI and emerging technology trends, such as Blockchain or Metaverse, helps achieve Sustainability Development Goals from both business and society perspective. In each session, students greatly appreciated his class. How does Prof Soum’s course remain a fan-favourite? To quote him: “Teaching is an art which requires creative act. Just like an artist, I as a teacher aim to select tools, methods, and interventions for creating facilitating conditions where students can learn and engage most effectively.” Two other important aspects of his teaching are taking into account students’ interest and needs in deciding some sessions content and, practice research informed teaching – “drawing from latest research and industry practitioners’ findings to provide students with a comprehensive and holistic understanding bridging the gap between theory and practice.”
Thank you to those students who dared to “Learn, Unlearn and Relearn” through this unique opportunity that is the TBS Education Summer School, where engaging in conversations and discussion with students [and professors] from different countries, cultural background, perspective and generation are just some of the highlights this program has to offer.
TBS Education Summer School is not all about academics! Getting up close and personal with companies and business professionals in various industries are an essential element to the TBS Education Summer School experience. This year, participants of the Summer School got the chance to visit the world’s largest airliner manufacturer, Airbus, and check out the final assembly line while learning about this iconic French company that has dominated the skies for decades.
Next on the list was a comprehensive visit of IoT Valley. Here, students learned about the flourishing ecosystem created for and by seasoned entrepreneurs and budding start-ups. Students got the chance to meet start-uppers and get first-hand account of their experience and learn about what it takes to turn promising ideas into profitable realities. First up was Stéphane LOISEAU, TBS Education alumni & founder of Owley, a company providing turnkey solutions for clients to recover people (search and rescue missions) or track lost and stolen assets in any situation. The second startupper students met with was Guillaume DUVEAU, CTO of Doorinsider, an online marketplace helping real estate agencies to implement 3D solutions and integrate the latest technologies to enhance customers’ experience.
In addition to company visits, students also had the opportunity to learn about other industries, through Expert Talks. Here, experts in various fields came to TBS Education to share and impart their industry knowledge and personal stories of how they were able to make it in their fields. Entrepreneurs, such as Jehan DE WOILLEMONT, eighth generation wine maker from Chateau de Marmorières, not only shared his know-how of the wine industry, but also provided tastings for students of some of his most prized bottles. Additionally, our students were also treated to a visit to the Ernest Wallon Stadium of the iconic Stade Toulousain rugby team here in Toulouse. After the visit, students took part in an Expert Talk with Frédérique DELAGE, senior strategy and digital expert in the Sports and Entertainment industries who focused on international sports event management including the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024. TBS Education is grateful for its vast and inspiring network of companies that provide the opportunity for our students to experience real-world knowledge and insights into the business world; a cornerstone for our students’ professional and personal development.
Our P20 delegates all specializing in Aviation, had a busy and fruitful week in both Paris and Brussels, working on the “dual use of aviation as both a civilian and a military asset”.
One of the highlights of that week was a visit to the EU Commission in Brussels where insightful presentations were shared by EU Commission experts on the political executive of the European Union and on the European Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid Operations.
Then, a visit to the EU Parliament in plenary session gave our P20 delegates the opportunity to hear live, the Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković addressing Parliament. This speech was followed by a round of interventions by EU political group leaders before MEPs discussed the European Union and its future prospects.
Quite an eventful journey and a fairly busy weekly schedule for our TBS GEMBA delegates!
From the 4th to 8th April, TBS organized the “No impact Week” to raise awareness among the TBS Community on the impact we have at work and on our daily life.
No impact means living in a globalized world with the understanding that all our actions have an inevitable impact on the planet. At a time in which the ecological question is more prevalent on the international scene, we need to rethink our way of living, thinking and acting. TBS trains managers to do just that!
Travelling with minimal impact on the planet, that’s the challenge, Laurent, a TBS alumnus, and his impressive family of five, set out for themselves in 2022.
Ourgoal was simple. We wanted to ride across Europe (25 000 kms) on two electric bikes, surviving on 10 euros each a day. Laurent, a TBS alumnus
Ourgoal was simple. We wanted to ride across Europe (25 000 kms) on two electric bikes, surviving on 10 euros each a day.
The idea is centered around presenting the beauty of the world to their three kids without impacting nature along the way and, at the same time, learning how nature is designed and how it functions in symbiosis with its surroundings. By showing nature respect, travelling with resilience, and stepping out their comfort zone, this young family of five are truly embarking on an inspirational ecological journey.
The family is totally autonomous with solar batteries, tents and all camping necessities. This is a way of life, a state of mind and a way to plant a seed in their children’s’ mind and allow them to experience the real world and learn to appreciate and preserve it; how to reduce the global impact as well as the human impact.
More than a journey with a destination, this adventure is about taking the time to enjoy and admire the natural world at their own pace without a fixed itinerary to follow. Slowing down and taking time to fully embrace each place; this is a central element to the human aspect of their collective journey.
A very inspiring story that gives us the chance to think about our own ecological footprint and the changes we could implement in our daily actions, big or small, by preserving our environment and future generations. Nothing is impossible.

Until now, digital transformation has never been so important. More and more companies are seeking to adapt to this digital change, where their transformation is vital to survive in a world that is constantly globalizing. The MSc Digital Transformation & Business Innovation program is born at the TBS Education campus in Barcelona.
According to Kai Bender, market leader for Germany/Austria at global management consulting firm Oliver Wyman, in a Harvard Business Review Analytic Services survey says: “The COVID pandemic has greatly boosted transformation projects. When it became impossible to interact with customers analogically, the extension of digital services became a key issue.”
In recent years, digital transformation has become a buzzword among business leaders. According to a Gartner study, “79% of business strategists said they have digitized their businesses to generate new revenue streams.” This evidences the importance of generating new transformation initiatives, which go hand in hand with the digital change needed.
Today Barcelona is considered a digital hub in southern Europe, largely due to the consolidated system of start-ups and the large number of events that revolve around the digital universe that the city hosts. A good example is the Mobile World Congress, which generates the interest of large corporations from various sectors seeking to open innovation centers of global impact.
Therefore, the MSc Digital Transformation & Business Innovation is the perfect opportunity to test in a professional way what is happening in the business sector and in turn learn to help companies to create business processes and possible new ways of adapting to technological changes. In addition, there is the opportunity to work on real cases, in collaboration with professional experts in the sector, who will guide in a more accurate way how business innovation is carried out.
The MSc Digital Transformation & Business Innovation program, which is taught on-site and entirely in English at the Barcelona campus of TBS Education, has Roxana Ologeanu-Taddei, professor of information systems management, as program manager.

For the first time this year, the TBS Library team was able to meet all the new arrivals of B1 during a new Research Initiation module on the 3 TBS campuses (Toulouse, Barcelona, Casablanca).
It was essential for us to be present from the start of their course to introduce them to the library and allow them to appropriate the tools essential for their thinking about a future professional and their academic work.
Should we list all the databases in the Library ?! Boring! Yet another training in supra-theoretical documentary methodology ?! Boring!
The idea of creating a game and making documentary research fun then emerged. After all: couldn’t we approach research from a more fun angle? Our shock team then seized the constraints (limited time, large student volume, very theoretical elements to be transmitted, etc.) and demonstrated creativity to make this special moment of the year a constructive and pleasant one.
To do this, we have therefore partnered with the teaching teams as well as at the service of innovation and pedagogy. Together we have targeted educational objectives, scripted and invented tests, tested and used innovative digital tools.
On your research, get set … Go! “In search of resources” is the name of the game, plunges students into the role of the intern who must respond to all of his boss’s requests in a very short time. And God knows that the boss has a lot of things to ask him… Avoid fake news, find an AFNOR standard, choose the most reliable site, find the figures of a consumer survey… Throughout the activity the student will have to navigate in different databases, check their sources and avoid the traps set by the boss. Obviously the boss will know how to reward him in his quest! Hm .. or maybe not ?!
At the end of the session, the students were invited to share their thoughts on the game. The feedback could not have been more positive and satisfying for the whole team! + 90% of them felt more comfortable finding information and browsing the Library’s site and doing a search in its databases: mission accomplished!
We look forward to coming back next year and the following years with other ideas for the game, to enrich and make it even more complex. This is also a Library: a playground for the mind, renewed access to knowledge, a help and support service.
